BMC Expands Vascular Surgery Department

BMC EXPANDS VASCULAR SURGERY DEPARTMENT AND WELCOMES WAYNE NELSON, MD

BEND, Ore. — July 15, 2013 — Bend Memorial Clinic (BMC) is pleased to announce the expansion of our vascular surgery department with the addition of Wayne Nelson, MD.

Dr. Nelson joins BMC as the only fellowship trained vascular surgeon in Central Oregon. As a vascular and endovascular surgeon, he is dedicated to the care of disorders of the circulatory system including the arteries and veins.

“In the past patients have had to travel over the mountains to receive the type of care that Dr. Nelson now provides in Central Oregon,” said Dr. Sean Rogers, BMC Medical Director.  “By expanding our program and adding a Vascular Surgeon of Dr. Nelson’s caliber, BMC is able to medically manage our vascular patients, create long-term care plans for them as well as treat a high-level of trauma.”

Dr. Nelson graduated magna cum laude from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and attended Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Nelson completed a 5-year Surgery residency and an additional 2-year fellowship in Endovascular and Vascular Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, and has the Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation credential. He has won the Patient’s Choice Award in Texas for the last five years and recently was recognized as a Five Year Honoree.

Dr. Nelson enjoys practicing the full scope of vascular disease with special interest in endovascular treatment of complex thoracic and abdominal aneurysms, branched and fenestrated grafts, carotid stenosis, renal and mesenteric artery stenosis, peripheral vascular disease, and minimally invasive treatment of varicose veins.  His philosophy of care is to partner with primary care physicians to manage patients with vascular disease and provide ongoing treatment to advance vascular health utilizing state-of-the-art technology.

Dr. Nelson will practice at the BMC main campus at 1501 NE Medical Center Drive and perform procedures at St. Charles Medical Center, Bend.
