Ashley Michael, MD

As part of the Summit Health Pain Management team, Dr. Ashley Michael is double board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and pain medicine. Dr. Michael treats a variety of chronic pain conditions including back, neck, and joint pain, neuropathy, and complex regional pain syndrome to improve quality of life and function.

Given the complexity of chronic pain, she believes it is important to treat the whole person using a multimodal approach including therapy, interventional procedures, medications, and more. “It is most important that I understand what a patient’s expectations and goals are so that we can work together to achieve them,” says Dr. Michael. “Hearing about a patient who is finally able to do something that their pain previously prevented them from doing is one of the things I love most about my specialty.”

After beginning her career in finance, Dr. Michael volunteered at a free health clinic which inspired her to go back to school and become a physician. She earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch before completing her internal medicine internship and physical medicine & rehabilitation residencies at Baylor College of Medicine, and her pain management fellowship at the University of Utah. Outside of work, Dr. Michael enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, traveling, baking, and being outdoors.
