As a Urologist at Summit Health, Dr. Dan Willis believes that communication and education is essential to patient care. “My patients should leave their visit better informed about their disease process with as much knowledge as possible to contribute to their own personalized and informed medical decisions,” says Dr. Willis. He decided to pursue medicine because he embraced the privilege and responsibility of surgical care where he both academically and mechanically contributes to the healing of the individual. “Health care delivered in this way creates a unique and meaningful relationship with the patient that I greatly value,” Dr. Willis says. His goal each visit is to make sure his patient feels comfortable communicating with him and understands that he truly cares for their well-being. “That mutual trust is essential for us to come together on a treatment plan that should lead to a sense of hope and confidence.”
Dr. Willis attended the Brigham Young University for his undergraduate education and attended medical school at Virginia Commonwealth University. He then went on to complete his residency at the University of Florida, in addition to completing his Urologic Oncology Fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
In addition to patient care, Dr. Willis trained in robotic surgery and care for the full spectrum of urologic disorders, including complex cases. His primary area of expertise is urologic oncology with expertise in the treatment of bladder, prostate, kidney, testes, and penile cancer.
In his time outside of work, Dr. Willis loves all things sports. Most recently he has gotten into tennis, slalom water skiing, and downhill/cross country skiing. He enjoys golf and running, and he especially loves doing these things with his family.
