Thomas D. Fitzsimmons, MD, MPH

Ophthalmology

Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Fitzsimmons joined the Summit Health Eye Care Department in June of 2006. Dr. Fitzsimmons earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the Mayo Clinic and later achieved subspecialty training in oculoplastic and orbital surgery at the University of Texas in Dallas. In addition to his ophthalmology pursuits, he has earned a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Texas in Houston, performed research at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden, and served in the US Public Health Service and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention within the Epidemic Intelligence Service.  For seven years prior to his move to Bend, Dr. Fitzsimmons was Chief of Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Assistant Professor in Ophthalmology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio.

Dr. Fitzsimmons is Central Oregon’s only physician with fellowship training in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery. He specializes in droopiness/bagginess of the eyelids, cosmetic eyelid surgery, excessive tears, lesions and skin cancers around the eyes, dry eye problems, and thyroid eye disease. Whether a patient has a cosmetic concern or a functional condition that affects the structures around the eyes, Dr. Fitzsimmons always strives to remedy the condition with the least amount of pain, bruising, and scarring.

In his spare time you’ll find Dr. Fitzsimmons playing a round of golf, traveling, and playing the guitar.
