Advanced Body Composition Testing @ Summit Health - 2nd Floor Physician's Lounge
May 11 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Weight loss doesn’t always mean fat loss. With a beneficial weight loss and exercise plan, we want to keep calorie-burning muscle and lose only the fat. Knowing your body fat % and body composition helps you determine if your weight loss and muscle building goals are realistic.

Summit Health offers Advanced Body Composition Analysis using a technique called DXA (Dual-energy X-ray Absorptiometry). This technique has been available for many years to assess bone density to test for osteoporosis, and has recently been applied to body composition. DXA is now the gold standard for measuring body fat % and body composition.

Summit Health’s ENERGY Department Presents the July Healthy Life Lesson:

You’ve heard it before… Americans just aren’t eating enough fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables are the foundation of a healthy diet rich in vitamins, nutrients, antioxidants, fiber, and water. It’s hard to understand how so many can resist that gorgeous nutritional profile. But the hard facts tell us that less than 30% of us – that’s 7 out of every 10 Americans – are failing to meet the recommended 5 A-Day.

Skin Cancer Awareness and Prevention @ Summit Health - 2nd Floor Physician's Lounge
Jul 13 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

Skin cancer is a lifestyle disease, affecting young women, older men and everyone in between. One in five Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime; 13 million Americans are living with a history of nonmelanoma skin cancer, and nearly 800,000 Americans are living with a history of melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer.

But there is good news: because skin cancer is chiefly lifestyle disease, it is also highly preventable.

About 90 percent of nonmelanoma skin cancers and 65 percent of melanoma cases are associated with exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun. Everyone, regardless of skin color, should make staying safe in the sun a priority and incorporate sun protection measures into their daily life.

Diabetes Prevention @ Summit Health
Aug 10 @ 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm

When it comes to type 2 diabetes — the most common type of diabetes — prevention is a big deal. It’s especially important to make diabetes prevention a priority if you’re at increased risk of diabetes, for example, if you’re overweight or have a family history of the disease.

Diabetes prevention is as basic as eating more healthfully, becoming more physically active and losing a few extra pounds — and it’s never too late to start. Making a few simple changes in your lifestyle now may help you avoid the serious health complications of diabetes down the road, such as nerve, kidney and heart damage.
