Carolyn Luppens, MD

Carolyn Luppens, MD, is a board-certified General Surgery provider at Summit Health in Bend. She specializes in surgical diseases of the abdomen and its contents, including the gallbladder, stomach, small intestine, appendix, colon, rectum, and abdominal wall (hernias).

Following undergraduate school at St. John’s College in Santa Fe, NM, Dr. Luppens attended medical school at Brown University in Rhode Island. She went on to complete her residency at the University of Utah and her fellowship in Acute Care Surgery, Trauma Surgery, and Critical Care at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque.

Dr. Luppens uses her expertise and training to provide good counsel to her patients. “I strive to understand my patients’ values and priorities which allows me to arrive at a plan of care together with the patient that serves those values and priorities,” she says. It’s important to her to ensure her patients feel heard, their questions have been answered, and that she has explained her treatment recommendations clearly.

When not seeing patients, Dr. Luppens enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, skiing, fishing, and walking her dog. She is a fan of the arts scene and loves attending concerts, film festivals, and theater plays.
