What makes the holiday season special? One aspect of the holidays that makes this time of year special is the traditional foods and family recipes shared. There can be great memories tied to grandma’s pumpkin pie or enjoyment experienced when eating thanksgiving stuffing.

Food plays a great role during the holidays; so how can we partake in eating these foods and still accomplish eating sensibly?

Portion control! Portion control is being mindful of the amount of food one is eating. A great resource for serving sizes and calories for a variety of holiday foods is from CalorieControl.org. The second part to practicing portion control is being mindful of how you feel while you are eating and stopping when you are satisfied. By monitoring the amount of food you are eating and being mindful to when you are satisfied, you will be able to enjoy holiday food sensibly.
