Botox® Cosmetic

Botox® Cosmetic is a facial rejuvenation treatment that corrects or softens minor wrinkles and used to treat hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating)

Botox® Cosmetic is an exciting facial rejuvenation treatment that corrects or softens minor wrinkles. Given in an injection, it weakens and disables muscles of the face that create facial lines. Botox is the most common cosmetic procedure performed in the United States today. Other similar medications such as Dysport and Xeomin have also become available and are very similar in effect and in longevity.

At Summit Health, Dr. Jensen is specifically trained to administer Botox injections and has intimate knowledge of the anatomy of the face, based on years of experience on this intricate anatomic area. As a result, he will first determine which muscle is causing the wrinkle, by asking you to make certain facial expressions so that he can evaluate the shape and orientation of the muscle. This allows us to plan the best locations for the Botox Cosmetic injection sites. This attention to detail assures you an excellent and natural-looking result.

Because Botox is the most well-known anti-aging product, many patients believe that it can be used to treat all signs of aging, but this is not true. Botox is only effective on those wrinkles that are caused by muscle activity. It is primarily used on the frown lines (“11” lines between the eyebrows) and crow’s feet. We have found that in off-label use, Botox is also effective on forehead creases,  lip “smoker’s” lines, slight eyebrow sagging, lines across the bridge of the nose (“bunny lines”), and to lift the corners of the mouth.

Juvéderm & Voluma®

Juvéderm & Voluma® replaces facial fullness and supports the structure of the skin.

Juvéderm Voluma® XC is a safe, effective injectable dermal filler made from hyaluronic acid, a substance that naturally exists in your skin. Voluma is the first FDA-approved product in the U.S. specifically for age-related loss of volume in the midface. Therefore, it is primarily used to restore lost fullness in the cheeks and under the eyes. With the experience we have gained from using Voluma, we have also often found it effective for use off-label in other areas of the face, when our clinical judgment indicates it.

Research has shown that we lose about a teaspoon of fatty tissue from each side of the face every year. Voluma replaces that fullness and supports the structure of the skin. In addition to smoothing areas that have lost support, Voluma can be used to help hide new wrinkles and folds.

One of the greatest advantages of Voluma is that it can last up to 24 months in some patients. Others find that they need a touchup visit for a smaller-volume, additional injection within 9 to 12 months to maintain the same initial effect for the 2-year duration.

Prior to the introduction of Voluma, physicians added volume to the mid-face by using fillers that were primarily designed for the smile lines around the mouth. The results were reasonably good but not as good as Voluma. Because Voluma is longer-lasting and helps to preserve a fuller, younger look than some other facial fillers, many patients prefer it, although other fillers may be preferable for different areas of the face.

Another advantage of Voluma is that its results are immediate. Right after your treatment, you will notice fuller, rounder facial contours, which will make your face appear softer and younger.

Voluma also contains lidocaine for comfort and is the best way to non-surgically restore a more youthful appearance to the midface. Many patients use it as an alternative to a mini-face lift or cheek implants.

All dermal filler injections, including Voluma, are performed in our office by our surgeons. Due to their extensive knowledge of facial anatomy, each of our surgeons is able to determine the optimal locations for your injections in order to provide the best possible result. The aesthetic eye of the surgeon, coupled with experience, allows him to analyze the features of your face and determine where to place the filler expertly so that your face is restored as much as possible to how you looked a few years ago.

Since hyaluronic acid is a substance already contained in the body, Voluma is very safe. It has been used with outstanding results in 72 countries. Hyaluronic acid is important in the body’s natural wound-healing process, and it has been safely and effectively used for many medical purposes, including eye surgeries, joint injections, and treatment for eczema, among others. Although highest concentrations of hyaluronic acid are found in fluids in the eyes and joints, the substance is also contained in the connective tissues of skin and cartilage.

Kybella®

Kybella® is an injectable medication for excessive fatty tissue under the chin that causes mild sagging of the neck.

Kybella® is a new injectable that was just approved by the FDA in 2015. It is the first FDA-approved injectable medication for “submental fullness” – excessive fatty tissue under the chin that causes mild sagging of the neck.

Kybella works by destroying the excess fat cells under the chin. It is made of deoxycholic acid, which is naturally produced in the body to absorb fat cells. While this is a new product, more than 20 studies have shown its safety and effectiveness. Certain medications are contraindicated, however. If you take anticoagulants or antiplatelets, you are not a candidate for Kybella.

While Kybella is ideal for some patients with a double chin, it is not appropriate for all patients looking for a double chin reduction. There are three issues that can cause you to dislike the appearance of your neck:

  1. Submental fullness of the tissue. In this case, the skin and muscle tissue are in good condition, and the double chin is due to excess fatty tissue, which makes the patient a good candidate for Kybella injections.
  2. Sagging skin. If this is the case, Kybella will not have an effect because it does not treat the skin. If the sagging of the skin is mild, this condition can be treated with non-surgical Ultherapy. If the sagging is moderate to severe, a neck lift will be necessary.
  3. Loose muscles. Patients with loose neck muscles will see typical “bands” showing vertically. Kybella will have no effect on this condition. If the muscles have loosened as part of the aging process, the only way to correct the condition is with a surgical neck lift.

Asclera®

Asclera® – injectable product that treats spider veins and small varicose veins

Sclerotherapy (pronounced sklair-o-THAIR-uh-pee) is a medical procedure that has been used since the 1930s to treat varicose and spider veins. As the standard of care, it is considered one of the safest and most effective treatments for removing unwanted leg vein. The procedure involves injecting a solution directly into a vein, causing the treated vein to seal shut and fade from view over time. The treated blood vessel (vein) is then naturally resorbed by the body.

Asclera® is a specific type of solution used for sclerotherapy that has anesthetic properties and may help to reduce procedure discomfort.
