Family history is an important risk factor to pay close attention to for colon cancer.  About 10% of the population has a first degree relative with colon cancer. It’s important to know your family history for both first and second degree relatives.  A person with a family history of colon cancer are more likely to develop this disease themselves, especially if the relative had the cancer at a young age. Knowing your family history can save your life.  If you or your loved one has a family history of colon cancer tell doctor they can help determine your risk factors and what preventative screenings may be available for you or your loved one.
