Early detection is key in reducing your risk of colon cancer. Did you know that over 90% of all cases of colon cancer can be prevented with recommended screening? Colon cancer is one of the most detectable and if found early, treatable forms of cancer. Screening helps to find and remove polyps before they become cancerous. It can also detect the cancer early when it is most treatable. If everyone who is 50 years or older were screened regularly, most deaths from this cancer could be avoided. Both men and women should consider screening beginning at the age of 50 whether or not they have signs or symptoms of colon cancer. If you have a family history of colon cancer, colonoscopy is receommended even before age 50.
