Your primary care physician may refer you to an otolaryngologist if you develop problems or symptoms including:
- Hearing or dizziness issues, ear infections, and disorders of the outer and inner ear
- Problems with the nasal cavity and sinuses, including allergies, chronic sinus infections, problems with smelling, and difficulties with breathing through the nose
- Lumps, masses, and both cancerous and non-cancerous growths in the head and neck area (including mouth, jaw, and lymph nodes)
- Advanced skin cancer
- Thyroid nodules and growths
- Parathyroid disorders and disorders of calcium regulation
- Chronic or recurrent tonsil problems
- The voice box (or larynx) and upper esophagus, including the voice and problems with breathing and swallowing
